Threshing In Ballyboy

Threshing in Ballyboy by Roseann

I went to the annual Threshing festival 2007 in Ballyboy on Sunday the 16th of September. This year it was decided to concentrate on a local project on Restoration of the church steeple. Anyone who has visited Ballyboy will know that the church steeple can be seen from miles around, especially at night when it is lit up.

When I went to the Threshing I brought my ponies Harvey and Chelsea. These are the events that were there; Vintage Threshing, Vintage display, pets corner, sheaf pitching for those who want to test their strength, butter making, griddle bread with churned butter, colcannon, country market, pancakes, tea and sandwiches, guessing the weight of the cake or animal, Bric-a-brac, boot in the barrell, mice races, bouncing castles, face painting and rice balloons, pillow knockout, auction, school sports, Tv for the match, Dog Show with five different classes and the duck pool.

I met Mary-Beth, Lauren, Mary B, Jayne, Edel and Shauna. We had a great day.

Ballyboy Threshing by Lauren

On Sunday I went to the Ballyboy trashing I met Roseann ,Mary Beth, Jayne, Edel, and Mary. Roseann, Mary Beth, Jayne,Aideen and I got our picture taken by a photographer for the local paper . Jim Feighery had a old time trashing machine. This is a example of how corn was milled to make flour for cooking. There was loads for everyone to do. For children there was pony rides, face painting, pillow fights, hit the cans and bounce castle. Tom Buckley was making griddle bread during the day he also turned butter to put on the bread. To eat there was sandwiches, sweets and delicious pancakes. There was tea, coffee, and fizzy drinks. At seven o'clock I went home. I really enjoyed myself.
