Farm Animals

There are lots of farm animals on our farm. One of them are cattle. There are different breeds of cattle. On our farm we have Salars, Charolais, Simmental, Belgian blue and Limousin. The breed I like the best is the Charolais.

The dairy Farmers usually keep Freisen or the Jerseys. They keep them because they are good milkers. Milk from the cow can produce butter, cheese, ice cream, yogurt and milk. The cost of a cow depends on the size and condition.

Sheep
Another farm animal is sheep. Some of the breeds are the Suffolk, Texel, Charolais and Jacob. We keep Suffolk and Charolais. We have a Texel ram. When the sheep have lambs the farmer usually keeps the lambs until they are big and heavy and then he brings them to the mart or the factory to get money for them.

Goats
Goats can produce milk and cheese. They will feed on anything.

The other farm animals are chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys, and guinea fowl. These are known as fowl or poultry. Some people keep turkeys, ducks, chickens and geese for eating. Others keep them for breeding.

There are three more animals the donkey, pigs, and goat. People have donkeys for pulling carts. Other people have them as just pets.

Pigs
Pigs are reared for their meat and for breeding. We have two pigs for their meat.
